  1. Appreciate effort no matter if they win or lose
  2. Consistently trying hard builds more confidence to do well
  3. Encourage practice to build competence, without putting too much pressure on them
  4. Encourage curiosity
  5. Give challenging small goals 
  6. Giving useful feedback.
  7. Treat mistakes as building blocks for learning
  8. Exposing athletes to new things
  9. Expressing parental and coaches’ confidence
  10. Remind athletes that every road to success is filled with setbacks
  11. Confidence comes from sticking to new and different things
  12. Celebrate growth
  13. Authoritative, but not forceful or strict
